Blink and you missed it – Q2 has zoomed past quicker than Lando Norris at Silverstone! With summer creeping in, Lioness fever gripping the nation (it’s official – it’s coming home!) and a scorcher of a Glastonbury, there’s been no shortage of drama off the forecourt.

But here at Dealer Auction, our attention has been firmly on helping dealers stay ahead of the curve. From market shifts to stock trends, it’s safe to say Q2 kept us all on our toes, with plenty of action – and opportunity!
In this edition, we’re looking at how Q2 2025 shaped up against Q1 – but also looking back on Q2 2024. Seasonality plays a role between consecutive quarters, while year-on-year indicates broader trade network performance.
So, grab a cuppa and let’s take a look under the bonnet of Q2 2025…

Move over, Love Island: at Dealer Auction, we sent out 5.7 million intelligent stock alerts between 1 April and 30 June 2025, letting dealers know as soon as a match hit the platform – a 78% rise on Q1’s 3.2 million. This supported a speedy average days to sell of just 3 days. Our digital experience is immediate and dynamic, meaning you can snap up the used car stock you need right now, while also bolstering remarketing strategies.

We add fresh stock daily, and saw 40,839 auctions ending in Q2 2025 – up 41% from Q1. We also saw 223,551 total bids captured on our platform. The average sold price slightly dipped from £6,962 in Q1 to £6,705, but was notably up 10% on Q2 2024. Our average CAP Clean performance dipped slightly from 105% to 102%, but was still a strong showing. Read on to see the top performing models…

A 30% rise on trade profit YoY

The total retail value of vehicles traded through our platform held steady at £136,071,047. While we didn’t hit the lofty heights of our headline £5.5 million trade profit generated for sellers in Q1 2025, Q2’s £3.3 million was still an impressive 30% rise on Q2 2024.

Pre owned…and proven

Vehicles sold in Q2 were younger and a bit more lightly driven than those in Q1 2025. The average age dipped from 8.7 years to 7.8 years, with average mileage coming in at 62,281. These cars have already proven themselves on the road, but with plenty of life left, they’re primed for their next chapter.

When it came to fuel-type breakdown, petrol accounted for 53.7%, followed by diesel (39.3%), hybrid (5.9%) and EV (1.1%). We sold vehicles ranging from £50 to £124,000, with a very special Mercedes-Benz G Class moving through the platform.

A new ‘Class’ of CAP triumphs

Savvy dealers will be looking at different performance indicators to make informed, strategic purchases. The Vauxhall Mokka has regularly topped the league table for CAP Clean performance but dropped to third in Q2. The top spot was taken by the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, with a CAP Clean performance of 102.7%, followed by the MINI Countryman (102.2%).

Premium models once again dominated the retail margin chart. The Land Rover Discovery Sport took the top spot with an assumed gross margin of £3,914, followed by the Range Rover Evoque (£3,456) and Volvo XC60 (£2,752).

Next stop: Q3!

If Q2 taught us anything, it’s that the market waits for no one. But with the right tools, the right insights and the right stock, there are plenty of opportunities to be seized. Whether you’re hunting for margin-makers or moving metal faster, we’re here to keep you in the know – and in the lead. So, buckle up for the next leg of the journey. Let’s keep the momentum rolling!
