The latest data from Dealer Auction’s EV Performance Report (EVPR) highlights a boost in sales and a strong performance across the alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFVs) market for June 2025, with Volvo truly having a month to remember!

Before diving into the models, let’s look at AFV market performance. Average mileage remained below the 30,000-mile threshold, sitting comfortably at 29,450 miles, consistent with the year-to-date trend. Similarly, the average vehicle age stayed steady at 3.4 years. The average retail margin also remained solid, reinforcing both dealer and consumer preference for newer, lower-mileage vehicles. These trends offer a positive outlook for the AFV market’s future.

One of the standout achievements this month is the brilliant 56% increase in EV sales – the highest growth within the AFV segment. Although it still represents a small proportion of the market (rising from 0.83% to 1.33%), this performance is still a boost of confidence for EV dealerships and signals growing consumer enthusiasm for electric vehicles. Petrol and hybrid sales lost some ground, again showing the strength of pure electric models.

Dealer Auction’s Marketplace Director, Kieran TeeBoon, commented: “We’re very encouraged by these latest EV figures, alongside the emerging trend towards younger vehicles in the market. Increased profitability and growing buyer interest are promising indicators of the exciting potential ahead for the EV sector.”

Switching the focus to the best-performing models for June 2025, Volvo XC90 took the spotlight again as it triumphantly re-claimed the top spot for average margin with an incredible £6,572 – the highest figure ever seen in EVPR!

This model has consistently been a favourite among dealers and consumers alike, securing this position multiple times throughout the year. Interestingly, the XC90 also topped Dealer Auction’s Retail Margin Monitor top 10 for models retailing above £10,000 (all fuel types).

For EVs, Tesla was once again leading the charge, with the Model 3 not only topping the CAP performance charts but also securing second place for average margin – consistently demonstrating its strong appeal and profitability.

Additionally, Hyundai celebrated success, with both their hybrid and electric models performing exceptionally well. The Hyundai Tucson replicated its strong showing across all three key metrics – CAP performance, sales averages and average margin – earning top ten placements in each category. Close behind, the all-electric Hyundai Kona secured sixth place for average margin, reinforcing the brand’s growing presence in the AFV market.

TeeBoon concluded: “June has been a highly impressive month for AFVs. We’re starting to see clear preferences emerge for specific models, with dealerships and consumers gaining a stronger understanding of which AFVs drive the best sales. It’ll be fascinating to watch whether these trends continue and what new positive developments come to the forefront.”
