Dealer Auction’s EV Performance Review (EVPR) for June reveals a standout month for alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) on the platform. Performance metrics saw the highest margin of the year so far, as well as major rises in bids received and the average sold price.

Indeed, the average margin reached £3,334, the highest level since November 2024. Added to the average sold price, which rose from £13,844 to £14,237 month-on-month, the data paints a picture of a platform that’s ripe for dealer opportunities. Dealers certainly got the memo, bidding in their droves – boosting the average number of bids by 10%.

Following the flight to older, higher-mileage AFVs in May, June saw the mileage settling back to the year’s norms (dropping from 41,017 to 33,622) and the average age holding steady – albeit still high – at 5.5 years. This remains the oldest since the EVPR launched, but the dip in mileage might suggest that the average age might start to come down as the summer progresses.

In terms of fuel percentage on the platform, AFVs held steady with around 11% of the market share.

Dealer Auction’s Marketplace Director, Kieran TeeBoon, commented: “It’s been a busy spring for trade AFV movement. Interestingly, this period has also been a turning point for new AFVs. In June, reports showed that more new EVs were sold in the 12 months to May 2026 than petrol cars,1 and EVs claimed their largest monthly slice of the UK new car market so far this year.2 It’s a positive direction of travel, and one we expect to see start filtering more and more into the used market. But as stock volume increases, dealers will need to put all their experience and data to work to find those unique opportunities for profit.”

Turning to the top-performing models of the month, BMW was the breakout star, with three hybrid models securing top positions in the top 10 charts for both margin and CAP Clean performance – reflecting the potential benefits for buyers and sellers alike.

The BMW X5 took the top spot for margin for the first time on record, joined by the X3 (a fresh entry) and 5 Series in third and fourth place respectively. The same trio also boasted excellent CAP Clean performance – this time with the BMW 5 Series taking top billing (104%), followed by the X5 (102%) and X3 (101%) in third and fourth place respectively.

Looking back at the top 10 margin chart, last month’s top performers – the Volvo XC40 and XC60 – dropped out, but the brand was well-represented by the XC90 in second place. The Jaguar I-PACE continued to fly the flag for electric vehicles as the only EV in the top 10.

The hybrid Nissan Qashqai continued to run the show in the volume sold chart, with its fully electrified sibling, the Nissan LEAF, holding firm as the only EV in that chart.

TeeBoon concluded: “BMW’s performance is not to be overlooked, especially in a month where we’re seeing AFV margins reach their highest level since winter 2024. Not to mention BMW’s CAP Clean performance. A car that delivers on both margin and CAP Clean is a win all round, combining commercial strength with proven market appeal.

“As a final note, last month I deliberated whether we would see a Volvo, Lexus or Toyota perform well in the sales volume chart this month – following a burgeoning pattern of profit standouts quickly appearing in the volume charts, as dealers capitalised on the profit opportunity. It was therefore great to see the Toyota Yaris and C-HR climb the volume top 10 in June. By this logic, let’s see if BMW hits big volumes in July.”
